New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) is building a democracy that represents and includes all people by engaging new voters, supporting New Americans as they run for office, and expanding civic engagement.
We believe that all people should be represented in government. This means training, supporting, and electing leaders who share life experiences and values with their communities to ensure every voice is heard and included in key policy decisions. As new voices to our democracy, their perspectives and hard won participation must be included at every level of government and represented in places of power.

Since 2020, New American Leaders has been shining a spotlight on the rise of New American representation in state legislatures, with a fresh report released every two years. We’re excited to share our 2024 report, covering the progress from 2022 to 2024, and we hope you'll be just as thrilled by the findings!
This isn’t just about the numbers—it's a story of growth, progress, and empowerment for immigrant communities. The report highlights the inspiring journeys of New American legislators, the impact of their leadership, and the crucial role that NAL and the New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) have played in driving this movement forward.
But the road to a fully representative democracy isn’t over yet. Despite major wins, significant gaps remain. Barriers like voter suppression, financial obstacles, and limited access to political networks are still holding New Americans back. Tackling these challenges is essential to ensure fair and equal opportunities for all candidates.
